K9 Handler position currently available
The Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified individuals dedicated to serving our community with Honesty, Dignity, Respect and Professionalism.
The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of K9 Handler. Qualified applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, possession of a Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification or certification in another state with the ability to obtain certification in Colorado. Preferred previous experience in K9 detection handling and Narcotic Odor Recognition.
The K9 Handler will conduct complex investigations, work closely with all personnel, be available for call out, train with their Canine partner to maintain their skills in scent detection, tracking, and other specialized tasks, be able to thoroughly document all training and field activity, provide community assemblies when needed, perform search and rescue operations, maintain safety and security in the Community. The K9 Handler will be expected to operate with minimal supervision and provide positive 21st Century Police Leadership to the community and staff.

- 21 years of age or older,
- No felony convictions or convictions of moral turpitude
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- A high school diploma or GED
- Colorado P.O.S.T Certification from an accredited academy by the time of appointment to the position.
